Future of Drones

Newcome (2004) believes that future drones will evolve from being robots operated at a distance to robots about to independently carry out any given task (page 134).

He also sees the role of the pilot evolving, until eventually, “pilots will be wired so that the electrical signals they send to their muscles will translate into instantaneous controls inputs to the USA…the future UAV pilot will transition from seeing the plane to being the plane” (page 134).

Zaloga (2008) also believes that the usage of drone aircraft is set to increase.  He states that “the capabilities of UAVs have developed to such a point that many air forces today are wondering if robotic aircraft will replace piloted aircraft in the next generation of warplanes (page 4).
